Dubai World Central fact sheet
Dubai World Central (DWC) is functionally the largest urban planning project in the UAE.
Dubai World Central is set to make urban planning history – a 140 square kilometre, multi-phase development with the world's biggest airport, Dubai World Central International Airport (JXB), at its core.
Fully self-sustaining, Dubai World Central promises to be a key benchmark in the evolution of the emirate, a genuine city-within-a-city
DWC creates a new benchmark in urban planning and destination living designed to support Dubai 's aviation, tourism, commercial and logistics requirements until 2050 and represents one of the most important developments in the history of the United Arab Emirates
In perspective, the total dedicated land area is almost twice the size of Hong Kong Island and expected to have an ultimate population of 900,000 people working and living within its borders.
The master plan is composed of six interrelated developments / cities; each carefully planned to satisfy good quality living and work environment, through integrated high quality living standards, while contributing to DWC's functional organisational structure.
DWC, with infrastructure costs estimated at US$ 33 billion, is comprised of the following developments:
Dubai World Central International Airport (JXB)
Dubai Logistics City (DLC)
DWC Residential City
DWC Commercial City
DWC Aviation City and
DWC Golf City
DWC is backed by the Government of Dubai and is chaired by His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman, Dubai Aviation Corporation – Dubai World Central, Government of Dubai.
DWC also creates the world's first fully integrated, multi-modal logistics platform in a single, customs-controlled zone
Dubai World Central International Airport (JXB)
The US$ 8.1 billion JXB, when completed, will be the world's biggest passenger and cargo hub.
It will have a capacity of 120-150 million passengers and more than 12 million tonnes of cargo annually.
The airport will have six parallel runways and as many concourses with a 91 metre high control tower
Work is 86% complete on the first 4.5 kilometre A-380 enabled CAT-III runway that is scheduled for completion by September this year.
The runway is being built by Al Nabooda Engineering.
First flights at JXB are expected end-2008, when the first passenger and cargo terminals will be ready.
The passenger terminal building, a 75,000 square metre single level terminal, is designed to cater for up to five to seven million passengers per year. The terminal is being built by Arabtec/Max Bogl Joint Venture.
The 41,000 square metre cargo terminal within Dubai Logistics City (DLC) with an annual handling capacity of 600,000 tonnes is underway too. It is being built by the same contractors - Arabtec/Max Bogl.
DLC is the initial step in creating the world's largest supply chain community within Dubai World Central.
JXB will also have a dedicated Executive Jet Centre which will be among the industry's best competing with Van Nuys in California , Teterboro in New York , Le Bourget in France and Farnborough in the UK .
Dubai Logistics City (DLC)
DLC - spread over 21.5 square kilometres - will be part of the world's first truly integrated multi-modal logistics platform in a single-bonded free zone environment made up of DLC, JXB, Aviation City and Jebel Ali Port.
It is designed as the region's unchallenged logistics hub catering to some two billion people throughout the Middle East , Indian Sub-continent, Africa and the CIS, all within three-to-four hours flying time from Dubai .
DLC consists of several groups of facilities:
Cargo terminals
Shared warehouses for forwarders
Plots of land dedicated for forwarders
Plots of land for logistics business of industry, trade, and distributors
Plots of land for dedicated facilities of integrators
Office buildings, ancillary services
Up to 16 air cargo terminals of 30,000 m2 each for a total of 12 million tons of air cargo annually
DLC will be a free zone and will have customs duties, no taxes, liberal visa policy, free capital transfer, 100% ownership, logistics know-how, quality labour at competitive cost and above all abundant space.
A bridge will link DLC and Jebel Ali port and free zone allowing for goods to move freely once they are offloaded a ship / flight.
Sea-air lead times for transport of goods at DWC will take as less as 3-4 hours as opposed to 1-3 days at the moment.
Over 130 companies have already reserved space within DLC.
DLC will assist customers to deliver superior cargo handling services
DLC will enable customers to provide world-class value-added supply chain activities
DWC and DXB Airport will be linked by a dedicated road and rail corridor for air cargo shuttle and for passenger transfer
DLC cargo shuttle will enable forwarders to operate from DLC only:
Shuttle will operate like a Road Feeder Service, thus DLC will handle DXB cargo the same way as JXB cargo
Any cargo labelled “JXB” will arrive at DLC terminal
Service will be bonded around the clock for full pallets and loose cargo
