The Lagoons
The Lagoons will offer freehold properties with 100 per cent ownership to people of all nationalities. The project will be spread over 70 million square feet. The Lagoons will have seven landscaped islands, comprising residential units, shopping centres, office buildings and marinas. These detached islands will be interlinked with bridges. The project will incorporate its own central business district, where corporations can establish their headquarters.
The Lagoons will include themes of environment, conservation, parkland and open spaces. It will have resorts, marinas, five-star hotels, commercial towers with large office spaces, malls, souks, villas and apartments.
Cultural attractions of the project include Dubai's first opera house, a planetarium, a museum, an art centre and a theatre.
Protection of the environment is a key component of The Lagoons development, which will have a large number of parks and green belts, and feature reduced density housing and building heights in the ecologically sensitive buffer zone.
The Lagoons will also showcase the Dubai Towers Dubai skyscraper complex. This development will include four mixed-use, state of the art luxury towers. It is believed that the tallest tower will reach a height of 400 metres while two of the others will exceed 300 metres. These towers will be the grand centre of this mega-project.
The Dubai Creek was the first district of the city to have its land value upgraded by infrastructure works by the late Sheikh Rashid, founder of modern Dubai and father of the present ruler Sheikh Mohammed. It is therefore fitting that the biggest real estate development of the modern era should again be on the banks of the Dubai Creek |
