Texas is the largest state within the continental United States occupying 261,797 square miles in the south-central region of the United States. The population of Texas in 2005 was estimated at 22,859,968, ranking it the second largest state in terms of population in the United States. The state's population is projected to exceed 30 million by 2025. The gross state product (GSP), which is similar to a country's gross domestic product (GDP), of Texas in 2005 was valued at over $989 billion. Texas' GSP was approximately one-twelfth of the total GDP for the United States for the same year. In 2005, Texas also ranked second in the United States in regards to the total number of housing units authorized for the year issuing over 210,000 units.

The Dallas-Fort Worth region of Texas, also known as the Dallas – Fort Worth Metroplex, is located in the north-central region of Texas. The Dallas – Fort Worth Metroplex is the largest metropolitan area in Texas, comprising of twelve counties with a land mass over 9,800 square miles. It has the largest population of any metropolitan area in Texas and has the 5 th largest population in the United States with over 5.6 million residents in 2005. It's population is projected to exceed 7.9 million by 2025. The gross metropolitan product for the Dallas – Fort Worth Metroplex in 2004 was valued over $254 billion, over 28% of Texas' gross state product for the same year. In 2005, the Dallas – Fort Worth Metroplex ranked fifth in the United States in regards to the total number of housing authorized for the year issuing over 59,000 units. It is a major logistics market in the United States with access to anywhere in the United States via either two-day truck service or rail service.
