Tunisia

Tunisia is bordered by Algeria to the west and Libya to the southeast and is the northernmost country on the African continent, and the smallest of the nations situated along the Atlas mountain range - midway between the Atlantic Ocean and the Nile Valley. Around forty percent of the country is composed of the Sahara desert, with much of the remainder consisting of particularly fertile soil and a 1300 km coastline.

Tunisia ranks high among Arab and African nations in reports released by The World Economic Forum. In the 2008-2009 version, it is first in Africa and 36th globally for economic competitiveness, well ahead of Portugal, Italy and Greece. It currently lies at the penultimate stage of development: efficiency-driven economies.
